Hannover 96 are based in Hanover, Lower Saxony.
Twice national Champions, 1 time German cup winners.
The national German Cup has long been dominated by top division teams.
Hannover's 1992 German Cup win made them the only non-Bundesliga side to take that prize since the formation of the professional league in 1963.
They won their first national championship in 1938 in what was one of the biggest upsets in German football history when they beat FC Schalke 04, the most dominant side in the country in the era. The two sides played to a 3:3 draw before Hannover 96 prevailed 4:3 in a tension filled re-match.
Hannover Airport is 14 km north of the city centre.
Bus: The 470 Bus leaves for the airport and vice versa from Langenhagen-Zentrum station 2 or 3 times per hour and makes various stops in Langenhagen. A normal public transport ticket is needed. You can reach Langenhagen-Zentrum station via tram line number 1, which leaves from the central railway station.
Train: The line is S5 and trains run every 30 minutes from 5.00 to 24.00 h. Travel time is 15 to 20 minutes to Hannover central station and the price of a single ticket is € 2.80.
Taxi: Taxi ranks are located at the entrance to the arrival terminal. Travel time to the city centre is approximately 20 minutes and costs around 25 Euros.
HANNOVER AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Hanover has a fantastic network of public transportation, so it's best to just park your car and ride. For more than two trips by tram, bus, or subway, a day ticket is your best bet, buying you unlimited travel on the public transport system. Day tickets are valid until the last connection of the day (which normally ends sometime after midnight). The public transportation adopts an honour system for tickets, but they do ticket inspections once in a while (also late at nights and early mornings). The fine is quite high, so make sure to have a ticket all the time. Be aware that some tickets will need to be validated (stamped on the 'blue box'), and some not, depending on the machine.
Hannover Card. Hannover Card is issued by the Tourism Office. It includes free use of public transportation and discounts for some local attractions (e.g. museums, opera, the Great Garden), tours, and restaurants. Price: Single ticket: 1 day €9, 3 days €15; Group ticket (2-5 persons): 1 day €17, 3 days €29. Ticket and Cards Regions: It may be confusing to understand the zones of Hanover public transportations. The key is to know that there are "tickets" and "cards". The term "tickets" applies to the ones bought at the machine or elsewhere, while "cards" are the ones with (monthly) subscription. Inside the city area, you only need a 1-zone ticket as it already covers a good part of the city. However, for the airport you will need a 2-zone ticket, as it is located outside the Zone 1. Ticket is valid inside bus, tram, fast tram (S-Bahn), and regional train.
City Centre to the AWD Arena You can get to the AWD-Arena with the S-Bahn lines 3, 7 and 9 (Waterloo), 3, 7 and 17 (Stadionbrücke) and the bus lines 100/200 (AWD-Arena). From there it is about seven minutes walk to the stadium.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
Herrenhäuser Garten (Royal Gardens of Herrenhäusen) No matter where you go in Hannover, you won't be far from a park or garden. But make sure you don't miss this one, the only surviving example of Dutch/Low German early baroque-style gardening. Designers from France, the Netherlands, England, and Italy, as well as Germany, worked together to create this masterpiece of living art. Grosse Garten, from 1666, is the largest garden, consisting of a rectangle surrounded by a moat. Within the maze of walks and trees are examples of French baroque, rococo, and Low German rose and flower gardens. The Grosse Garten also contains one of the highest fountains in Europe, shooting jets of water 72m (236 ft.) into the air, and the world's only existing baroque hedge-theatre (1692), where plays by Shakespeare, Molière, and Brecht are still performed, along with ballets and jazz concerts. The smaller 17th-century Berggarten, across Herrenhäuser Strasse from the Grosse Garten, is a botanical garden with houses containing rare orchids and other tropical flowers.
Rathaus, (Town Hall) The "new" Rathaus is a large structure, built between 1901 and 1913. An inclined elevator -- the only one in Europe other than the elevator at the Eiffel Tower -- takes visitors up to the 10m (33-ft.) dome. The building is attractive because of its location in the Maschpark, by a small lake. It's just a short distance from the extensive artificial Maschsee, frequented by Hannoverians for its beach, boats, and restaurants.
Niedersächsisches Landesmuseum Hannover (Lower Saxony State Museum) The Landesmuseum is one of the most important regional museums in Germany. There are exhibits on northern European biology and geology, ethno-medicine and ethno-botany, and on the history of Lower Saxony from the Palaeolithic Age up to the Middle Ages. The aquarium shows a world of exotic fish, amphibians, and reptiles. In the Kindermuseum, children can learn about prehistoric times with activities like grinding corn or working stone tools. The museum's art gallery contains treasures spanning 7 centuries. A highlight is Meister Bertram von Minden's Passion Altar (1390-1400). You'll also see paintings by Rembrandt, Van Dyck, and Rubens (his Madonna), as well as the Four Times of Day series by Caspar David Friedrich.
Sprengel Museum Although this museum of modern art, one of the best in Germany, has been around since 1979, it is gaining increasing renown for its two dozen annual exhibitions, now among the most cutting edge in Europe. These temporary shows stand side by side with the museum's permanent collection, which includes some of the greatest names in modern art -- Picasso, of course, but also Paul Klee, Max Ernst, Max Beckman, and the like. The museum is named for Dr. Bernhard Sprengel, who started the original collection with its array of French modern and Expressionism. Over the years the museum has expanded to include some of the most significant artists of the 20th century, and it also created one of the best Departments of Photography in Germany. In 1993, it acquired the Kurt Schwitters Archives. He was a native son of Hannover and one of the leading Dadaists; in fact, the square on which the museum sits was named after him.
Marktkirche This grand church from the 14th century stands in the heart of the city and represents the growth and development of this prominent Northern German city. It is punctuated by tall Gothic façades and a modern bronze portal dating from the 1950s. The church was destroyed during World War II, but it was rebuilt in the original style. The interior is expansive and awe-inspiring.
